As a byprod\u00aduct of the excur\u00adsion, the atten\u00adtion wan\u00adders from the eth\u00adno\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal sub\u00adject and is cap\u00adtured by the noc\u00adtur\u00adnal activ\u00adi\u00adty of amphib\u00adians. The cam\u00adera rests at the eye lev\u00adel of toads mov\u00ading back and forth in front of a door at the jun\u00adgle out\u00adpost of Bal\u00adimo in Papua New Guinea. The film sequence is there\u00adby crossed by axes of reflec\u00adtion, along which for\u00adward played episodes are reversed in order to be seam\u00adless\u00adly repeat\u00aded. The cap\u00adtured events seem to be trapped in a time warp and thus con\u00adfined for\u00adev\u00ader to the space on this side of the thresh\u00adold. Just as in Franz Kafka\u2019s para\u00adble \u201cBefore the Law\u201d the thresh\u00adold is nev\u00ader crossed.
